Oncology Care Model (OCM) is an experiment between the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and commercial payers intended to drive the healthcare system towards value-based cancer care. Running from 2016 to 2021, this model incentivizes quality improvement and cost reduction through episode-based payment and performance-based payment. The model is regarded highly among providers; the number of voluntary participants was double the program’s expectation. This report provides insights on the expected impact on OCM participating practices, characterizes those practices, and discusses implications for manufacturers.
